Chapter 2: The Embers of the Hearth
The interior of Kaelen’s tent smelled of old parchment, oiled steel, and the heavy, intoxicating scent of a man who lived by the blade. Kaelen set Robin down on a bed of thick furs with a gentleness that belied his massive frame. The furs were soft against Robin’s bare legs, but the air in the tent felt charged, thick with an unspoken tension that made Robin’s toes curl into the pelts.
Robin sat perched on the edge of the bedroll, his silver hair spilling over his shoulders like a shimmering veil. The "Maid’s Ribbon-Lace Chemise" he had summoned was a scandalous contrast to the rugged, utilitarian environment. The black silk clung to his slender torso, while the white lace frills bounced slightly with every shaky breath he took. His heart hammered against his ribs—not with the cold terror of his previous life, but with a frantic, pulsing anticipation.
Kaelen stood at the tent's entrance for a moment, his silhouette cutting a jagged, powerful hole in the moonlight. He began to unbuckle his armor. The heavy iron greaves hit the dirt floor with a muffled thud, followed by the groan of leather straps as he pulled off his chestpiece. Beneath the steel, Kaelen wore only a thin, sweat-stained tunic that strained against the slab-like muscles of his chest and the corded strength of his arms.
"You're a strange one, Robin," Kaelen said, his voice dropping to a gravelly low that sent a shiver straight down Robin's spine. "In Elyndor, those with the gift of the wardrobe are usually high-born elven consorts or the favored pets of vampire lords. To find one in the middle of a monster-infested woods..."
"I'm not a pet," Robin whispered, though the way he looked up through his thick lashes—neck tilted, body yielding—suggested a natural inclination toward being exactly that.
Kaelen crossed the small space in two strides. He knelt between Robin’s spread knees, his sheer bulk making the tent feel tiny. "Aren't you?" Kaelen’s hand, scarred from a hundred skirmishes with goblins and brigands, slid up Robin’s thigh. The contrast was startling: the mercenary’s skin was dark, rough, and weathered; Robin’s was the color of fresh cream and felt like polished marble.
As Kaelen’s thumb brushed the sensitive skin of Robin’s inner thigh, a jolt of pure energy surged through Robin’s core. In his mind’s eye, a HUD-like interface flickered—his mana pool, which had been a stagnant, shallow puddle, suddenly began to ripple and rise.
Intimacy with a Champion, a voice seemed to echo in the back of his mind. Mana Siphoning initiated.
Robin let out a soft, choked moan, his head falling back. "Kaelen..."
"You’re glowing, little bird," Kaelen murmured. It was true; a faint, rosy light was beginning to emanate from Robin’s skin. The more Kaelen touched him, the brighter the light became.
The mercenary’s patience snapped. He surged forward, his mouth finding the sensitive curve of Robin’s neck. Robin’s hands, small and delicate, found purchase in Kaelen’s thick, dark hair. The sensation of the man’s stubble against his throat was a delicious friction. Robin felt his body reacting in ways it never had before—his hips felt heavy, aching to be filled, and his mind felt a fog of sweet, submissive bliss settling over it.
Kaelen’s hands moved to the ribbons of the chemise. With a deft tug, the black silk fell away, exposing Robin’s lithe frame to the flickering light of the brazier outside. His chest was smooth, his waist narrow enough for Kaelen to wrap both hands around, and his hips possessed a lush, inviting roundness that seemed designed for a man's grip.
"You are a miracle of the gods," Kaelen groaned, his eyes fixed on the sight of Robin’s androgynous beauty. He moved to claim Robin’s mouth, a kiss that was deep, hungry, and tasted of iron and heat.
As they moved together on the furs, the world of Elyndor outside the tent faded. The 50,000 years of history, the warring kingdoms, and the monsters in the dark meant nothing compared to the friction of skin on skin. Robin felt his magical essence expanding with every touch, every gasp, and every driving motion. He wasn't just being taken; he was being fueled. The Spellfire in his blood began to burn, turning the pleasure into a searing, golden heat that promised him that this—this surrender—would be the key to his ultimate power.
Outside, the moon of Elyndor climbed higher, unaware that a god was being forged in the heat of a mercenary’s passion.
