Chapter 8: The Crimson Checkpoint

The transition from the suffocating dampness of the Hollowed Span to the open air was jarring. As Robin and Kaelen finally climbed the last set of crumbling, algae-slicked stairs, they emerged not into sunlight, but into a permanent, bloody twilight.

They stood on the edge of the Blood-Plains, a vast expanse of rust-colored flora that stretched out toward the towering, jagged silhouettes of the Vampire Citadels in the far distance. The sky above was stained a bruised magenta, illuminated by a perpetual, hazy aurora.

Kaelen stumbled as they cleared the exit, the adrenaline from the Crawler fight finally abandoning him. He slumped against a massive, weathered boulder, his chest heaving, one hand clutching his bruised ribs. The mercenary was a mess of sweat, green monster blood, and exhaustion.

"We need... to keep moving," Kaelen gritted out, though he couldn't hide the wince as he tried to straighten his back. "The open plains are dangerous. Royal Aegis patrols... vampire thralls..."

"You need a moment, Kaelen," Robin said softly, his voice a soothing melody against the harsh wind of the plains.

Robin felt a strange turbulence in his own veins. The clash of Vaelith’s cold shadow-magic and his own fiery essence had left him feeling wired, on edge, and desperately in need of grounding. He looked at Kaelen—the rugged, fiercely protective man who had claimed him first. Robin knew exactly what they both needed to re-center.

With a thought, the sea-foam silk he wore dissolved into a cascade of soft white light. From his Infinite Wardrobe, Robin summoned the "Healer’s Gossamer Slip." It was a scandalously short, translucent white chemise made of fabric so fine it felt like woven air. It hung off his narrow shoulders by two precarious ribbons, plunging low to reveal his smooth, pale chest, and ending just barely past the plump curve of his ass.

Robin sank gracefully to his knees on the rust-colored grass between Kaelen’s spread legs.

Kaelen’s heavy, hooded eyes snapped open, a sudden, primal heat flaring in the storm-grey depths. "Robin... we're in the open."

"We're hidden by the rocks," Robin whispered, his large, luminous eyes gazing up through his thick silver lashes. "Your body is tense. You fought a monster for me. Let me take care of you. Let me ground myself with your fire."

Kaelen let out a ragged groan, his head falling back against the boulder as his resistance shattered. Robin’s delicate, porcelain hands reached forward, expertly undoing the heavy leather buckles and laces of Kaelen’s trousers. The mercenary sprang free, thick, heavy, and already rigid with a desperate, pulsing heat.

Robin felt a flush of submissive adoration wash over him. He leaned forward, his soft hair cascading over Kaelen’s thighs, and took the mercenary into his mouth.

The contrast was intoxicating. Robin’s lips were impossibly soft, his mouth a hot, slick velvet heaven against the rough, battle-hardened man. He took Kaelen deep, his head bobbing in a steady, sensual rhythm. With every slide of his mouth, Robin focused on the connection. He felt the wild, chaotic shadow-magic in his chest begin to settle as he drew in the raw, burning, purely human vitality that poured off Kaelen.

Kaelen’s massive hands tangled in Robin’s silver hair, his knuckles white. "Gods, little bird," Kaelen hissed, his hips snapping forward instinctively to meet Robin’s eager, wet mouth. "You're going to drain my soul."

"Only the parts that hurt," Robin murmured against him, pulling back just enough to swirl his tongue around the thick ridge before sinking down again. He used his hands to stroke the base, his thumbs pressing into the sensitive flesh, milking every ounce of tension from the warrior. Robin loved this power—the ability to bring this towering, lethal man to his absolute breaking point using nothing but his softness and his mouth.

The magical exchange was palpable. A faint, golden aura began to radiate from where they connected, washing away the purple taint of the Dark Elf's magic that had lingered on Robin’s skin. Robin swallowed thickly, eagerly taking Kaelen deeper, humming a soft sound of pure pleasure.

With a guttural shout, Kaelen’s hips bucked upward violently. Robin held him firmly, his mouth clamped tight as the mercenary released with a blinding, euphoric surge. Robin took it all, swallowing the hot, heavy pulse of Kaelen's release. It tasted of salt, iron, and pure mana. As he swallowed, a warm, golden fire settled deep in his belly, fully repairing his magical core and soothing his frayed nerves.

Robin pulled back, licking his glossy lips with a sinful, contented smile. He rested his cheek gently against Kaelen’s thigh, looking up at the panting mercenary. "Better?"

Kaelen looked down at the ethereal femboy kneeling in the dirt in a translucent slip, his face flushed and his lips wet. A fierce, possessive smile broke across the mercenary’s scarred face. "I could fight a dragon right now."

"Save it for the patrol," a new, booming voice echoed across the rocks.

Kaelen was on his feet in an instant, his trousers hastily secured, his claymore drawn. Robin scrambled up behind him, the gossamer slip fluttering in the wind.

Rounding the boulder were five massive, heavily armored war-horses. Atop them sat knights clad in gleaming silver plate etched with gold—the unmistakable heraldry of the Royal Aegis.

The lead rider brought her horse to a halt. She didn't look like a typical human soldier. She was a titan of a woman, standing easily six feet tall even when she swung down from the saddle. Her armor was molded perfectly to accommodate a fiercely curvaceous, powerful frame. She pulled off her winged helm, shaking out a mane of brilliant, spun-gold hair. Her face was striking—strong jaw, piercing sapphire eyes, and a thin, elegant scar running across her left cheekbone.

This was Seraphina.

"Mercenary," Seraphina commanded, her voice ringing with natural, undeniable authority. She rested a gauntleted hand on the hilt of a massive longsword at her hip. "You are trespassing on the borders of the Blood-Plains without a Royal writ. By the laws of Oakhaven, you are to be detained."

Kaelen tightened his grip on his claymore. "We aren't looking for trouble, Commander. Just passing through."

Seraphina’s sharp blue eyes flicked past Kaelen, landing squarely on Robin.

The air seemed to stop moving. Seraphina’s gaze swept over the delicate, impossibly beautiful boy hiding behind the massive mercenary. She took in the sheer white slip, the flush still lingering on Robin's cheeks, the silver hair, and the wide, captivating eyes.

Then, Seraphina’s eyes narrowed as she spotted the dark, intricate rune branded into the skin of Robin’s neck.

"An Umbraqui mark," Seraphina breathed, stepping forward, completely ignoring Kaelen's drawn sword. She moved with a heavy, martial grace. "A human mercenary guarding a creature that reeks of High Elven starlight, Dark Elven shadow, and... something entirely else."

"Stay back," Kaelen warned.

"Stand down, sellsword," Seraphina ordered softly, her eyes never leaving Robin. "I could have my men fill you with crossbow bolts before you swing that heavy iron."

Robin, feeling the overwhelming pressure of the standoff, stepped out from behind Kaelen. He couldn't help it; his innate curiosity and the Siphon within him were drawn to the imposing woman. Seraphina’s aura was unlike Kaelen’s rough warmth or Vaelith’s cold darkness. It was a pillar of pure, radiant, disciplined power.

"Please, my lady," Robin said, his voice soft, adopting a naturally submissive posture, his hands clasped before him. "We mean no harm."

Seraphina reached out. She was wearing heavy metal gauntlets, but she stopped just inches from Robin’s face, pulling off her right glove with her teeth. She tossed it aside and reached out with her bare hand, gently lifting Robin’s chin.

The spark was instantaneous.

When Seraphina’s calloused, warm fingers touched Robin’s soft skin, a jolt of pure, white-hot mana flared between them. Robin let out a soft gasp, his knees going weak. He felt a profound desire to kneel, not out of fear, but out of an overwhelming urge to be commanded by this magnificent, honorable woman.

Seraphina’s breath hitched. A dark flush of desire crept up her neck. She stared into Robin’s eyes, realizing exactly what he was.

"By the Goddess," Seraphina whispered, her thumb tracing the line of his jaw. She looked over Robin’s delicate, femboy frame, her eyes darkening with a possessive, intense heat that matched Kaelen's.

She turned back to Kaelen, her posture shifting from a soldier doing her duty to a woman who had just found a treasure she had no intention of letting go.

"You are not under arrest, Kaelen of the Iron Rose," Seraphina declared, her voice husky. "You are under my... custody. Both of you. You will come with me to my personal camp."

Robin looked from Kaelen’s fiery jealousy to Seraphina’s commanding lust. He felt his magical core purring, expanding. He wasn't just surviving this world anymore. He was beginning to conquer it.
